Lexus Test Driver
(Actually, 2 days ago, too tired to type, then....!)
Front & rear struts... miserable job, 215k+ miles, MI-car, lots of stiff/stuck/seized bolts. Also, bought bare-struts, and not quick-struts, so had the joy of swapping over springs/tops. Spent almost 8 straight hours, yet rides so much better now. Also feel good about the money saved, someone over on the Facebook GS400 group posted their Lexus estimate... ouch...! Validation of thoughts on why people don't maintain these cars as well as they should (if they don't work on them, themselves).
Front-struts were shot. Could move them in/out by hand, and they are storing in the down-position... left side leaked out all it's oil, they were both useless, and had Jeep-wiggle over potholes... to the point of being dangerous... dead weight, and just along for the ride. Rears weren't as bad, could still move them by hand, yet at least there was enough gas to have them store extended.
Will do rotors/pads over the next few weeks, front upper control arms soon, yet that timing belt kit isn't going to install itself... not looking forward to that one...

$135 for all (4) struts, and 8hrs of my time. Maybe when these wear out, yet at 200k+ miles, I just wanted to get rid of the crazy front-end shake.
I never got one, yet going by the estimate posted on a Facebook GS400 forum, I'm guessing $600 for all 4 factory struts, and (at least) $400 in labor. You've got to disconnect/remove a lot to get the strut out from behind the A-arms. Also, they probably wouldn't do an alignment, as the car could (technically) still use front upper control arms. I can get the pair for around $60, yet not looking forward to those (have to take the front struts off, to get to the A-arm bolts). Once I replace the front upper control arms, and rotors/pads all around, then I'll get another alignment (already did the lower ball joints, and the outer control arms feel good).
It's really easy to drop a few $k at the dealership, for suspension work, on a Lexus with 200k+ miles on it.

I'm impressed you got a V6 to last 300k miles... those aren't known for their longevity. Our '00 CE 5sp is at 300k, and we're expecting to get 400k-450k out of it.
