Default Has anyone rebuilt their brake calipers

I recently found out that my drivers side brake caliper is stuck. I have been doing some research and I found that Lexus sells a cylinder brake kit part # 04478-30240 but I am unable to find a DIY for rebuilding the GS300 stock brake calipers using this kit.

Has anyone done this and how easy/difficult it is as a DIY?

I also see autozone selling rebuilt calipers but i am wondering the quality of those, has anyone has any experience with the autozone calipers?

I was also considering going the LS400 BBK route but I have L-Tuned Springs and Shocks and running stock 16" wheels so I that is out of the question for now.

You can also look on youtube. The process is the same for all 2-piece brake calipers, like what is on the GS.

I rebuilt my ls ones when i was powdercoating them. Its not hard if you know what your doing. The rebuild kit is a bunch of rubber seals, retainers, and some grease.

I'm assuming that the piston is sticking if your doing a complete rebuild. I've had issues with the caliper pins freezing before. Be sure it's not something as easy as caliper pins before you start a complete rebuild

if this is in fact the pistons and not the slides it will be easier to get a remain unit. If its seized there is corrosion so not only will it be a ***** to get out but you will have to polish the bore and replace the piston itself depending on how severe it is.

typicaly you can pull a good piston with compressed air or pliers...wont work in your case. stick to a reman and be happy.
