Default HELP. Car will not shift into Drive, Or L gear!

So what had happened was...

Finally finding the time to do so I opened up the gear shift assembly to clean out some hot sauce that spilled into it a while ago. I was hoping this was the reason for my shift lock mechanism not working but for the most part the hot sauce went everywhere else but inside the shift assembly. When I put it back together I noticed my key cannot be turned to the release position (last position to the left), only the acc position. Then my battery started dying out quickly which was the only time my key would release. Secondly, the car only recognizes P>R>N>M. Totally skips over the D gear. Anyone have an idea of what it could be?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

first off, recharge battery over night

while battery is recharging, reset ecu/tcu's by disconnecting the neg battery terminal.

sometimes a simple reset will solve most issues on this car...
