Default Replacing the Nakamichi HU - need advice

For those of you who have replaced your Nakamichi decks with after market, did you need a special harness or does the standard Toyota harness amp kit work. Also, if you could point me to a good thread for removing the old unit, that'll be great.

Thanks in advance.

I've done some research and found that there is no harness made for this vehicle you will basically have to build your own. The thread is somewhere on here, that explains it.

I didnt know at the time about 4 years ago when I switched mine out to a double din. I made my own harnesss from the back of the trunk to the head unit for each speaker...but you can run wires from the passenger side cabin area. I hear you can extend wires from there instead of running it from the amp like I did but I never looked into that since I got mine done. Good luck lol

Did you use the factory speakers?

[QUOTE=PlatGS3;7881843]yes I did.

So, does the amp stay inline and functional when tapping into te wires behind the glove box, or just a closer location to bypass the amp?

Thanks.

Bump!

If I tap into the wires behind the dash, does the amp stay active, or just a way of bypassing it earlier? Also, if we know the color codes, why can't the amp stay working if the answer is no? I'm really hoping not to lose the sub, but not seeing any posts otherwise! Thanks,

I have a 99 with the Nackamichi. See the attached wiring diagram. I tapped my aftermarket radio harness into the stock harness for constant power, switched power, ground and audio signals. The antenna plug should fit most aftermarket radios as well. If you're planning on replacing the Nakamichi amp, it is in the trunk on the right side, under the false floor. The attached wiring diagram will also show you wiring to there.

Also, I'm using the stock wiring so I didn't have to run any speaker cables.

That attachment helped a bunch. The only thing remaining is to see if I can get the amp working, just to power the sub. I've found power and ground on the amp, but trying to figure out what wire turns it on. There's a P-L labled ACC1 and a B-O labeled AMP+ The arrows seem to indicate the power flows from the amp to the deck, so that can't be right. Any idea which of the wires are supposed to be the remote turn on?

Everything else works great and I really appreciate the pdf file.
