Default New Tires ... suggestions/advice??

Hey guys, if you don't know, I'm new around here and it's possible that I should be searching for other posts about this but I've read the beginner stickies and this seems like a question on a fairly specific topic so I'll proceed ... send me elsewhere if need be ...

I just got my chrome 17s back from the shop (for a 2003 Lexus GS430) and I'm in the market for new tires. I've previously owned an Acura RL and a Volvo S60 so I'm really new to having a more racing inspired car and thus I have no real experience in what I should be buying if I'm thinking performance-based. I have bought Michelin in the past and I never had issues so I'm leaning towards Michelin Pilot A/S tires ... any advice or suggestions you all can give me would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also considering buying different tires for summer and winter.

Thanks in advance.

You live in NC. You don't need tires for both seasons lol. I'm from Bama so I know that you don't get a lot of crazy weather there. Michelins are great tires...expensive but great tires. I'm not the type to spend a lot for certain brand. I will for value and budget. Based on this, I've found that Falkens and Khumo always fit the bill for me.

When I had 20's I ran Continental, Khumo, Michelins, Nitto, and Nexens and found that my best bang for the buck was between the khumo's and nexens tires. I try to find all-season tires because I don't want a soft compound tire that will wear fast. I'm not doing cornerning at 70-100mph so all season tires are ok with me.

Lol ... thanks ... We might not get much snow but we get ice every year! But I agree, I don't NEED both because we don't have extreme winter weather, I was just looking into all my options. I've never had a problem with the Michelin that I had on other cars, I just wanted to run it by you all first.

I have some the same wheels and am running the higher end sumitomos, the cheaper ones are junk and I cant remember the exact model I have but they are all season and are super quiet with good grip. think I paid about 115-120 per tire.

Hey I got your package yesterday. Thanks! Oh, please leave me positive traders score lol. Yeah I've always stayed away from sumitomos. I know the cheaper ones that you are talking about. The one with the thread desigh that basically look like "C's" extending from the sidewall?

I'm running 275/40/17 in the rear and 235/45 in the front for a "staggered" look. I bought it from a member to brand new tires on the wheels. Look at pics of my baby https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...h-wheel-2.html Once tires wear out, I will go to 235/45 on all 4's so I can be able to rotate it.

I'm now considering this setup you have, Goku ... is this just about aesthetics or does it also help the performance of the car?

the rear tires covers more surface space on the road, so I'm getting better grip. As far as performance, I'm driving the "slow" GS3, so I'm not about performance and driving all fast. I have a monster 96 Impala that will blow out most GS's (minus the GS3 guys with the super turbo engines lol) on this site, so I drive that when I want some real V-8 american muscle lol. As I stated in a old post, I'm just driving this car stock and trying to keep it clean. Once I purchase my next vehicle, it will be all about performance with Italian muscle.

Michelin makes some top quality stuff. There are cheaper options out there that are equally good though

I really like my Falken FK453's. Cheap-ish, very good traction and very quiet. I'm running 235/35/19 and 245/35/19.

If your gonna go with Michelins take a look at the Primacy MXM4. It's not as aggressive looking as the Sport A/S and wears much better.

I had/have the Primacy tires before and they worked out great. At this point it's Michelin, I'll research Primacy vs Pilot A/S some more.

Thanks for all the comments!

Oh yeah, and my mom had one of the 96 impalas back in the day ... she wouldn't let me drive it but boys will be boys, I had two great days with that car, loved every second.

Just bought some Primacy MXM4s for the 17s ... I'm happy for the moment. We'll see how they ride tomorrow!
