Default 20.4 mpg in city

Lowest I ever got was 12.8mpg (city). Normally, I get 15 to 17.5 mpg (city). See link.

Right after Supertyphoon Pongsona that pounded us in Dec 8th and caused major damages on our island including three of the Mobil tanks caught on fire. No sell of public gasoline was allowed for one week. Luckly I fill up my tank before the typhoon. Due the fuel sale restriction I still had to drive for work and was able to obtain 20.4 mpg (city) by using the SNOW mode setting and reduce A/C usage 50% of the time. Driving performance was a bit sluggish but very, very smooth. Possibly starting at 2nd gear rather than 1st.

i'm gonna try that then when i'm driving in bumper to bumper traffic to save some gas. the GS4 sucks gas like a mother when it's not driving on the highway.

Default Snow mode improve mileage?

Does snow mode really improve mileage? It starts off in 2nd gear, right? Is that how it increases mileage, by accelerating slower? Thanks!

Lower rpm = better gas mileage. I read an article about that some years ago that said that as long as the engine is not "lugging" or otherwise acting erratic, lower rpm at a given speed will use less gas. Hence the popularity of overdrive.

On SNOW MODE the transmission tends to stay at the higher gear longer. Does not drop to the lower gear when you press the accelerator as quick. In bumper to bumper traffic it does use less gas as it controls our lead foot tendency. Right after the typhoon we did not have power to the stop lights and traffic was horrible. What normally takes me 10 minutes drives (city) to my work took almost 30 to 45 minutes. Once gas sale went back to normal I put it back to POWER mode. Boy what a difference after a week of driving in SNOW mode.

For you guys in the states with morning or afternoon rush hours on the highway. Try it if you want to save gas and have smooth driving in bumper to bumper traffic.
