Upgrading from 2nd gen steering wheel to 3rd

I don’t think one year is better than another, it’s just your styling preference. 02 GS300 don’t come stock with wood trim steering wheel so someone has already switched it out.

If your vehicle has the 2nd gen SRS airbags, then you have a few options to upgrade to, I believe the 02-05 ES RX and IS will swap over, the IS is your real prize and it has shift paddles instead of buttons, steering wheel controls and even Bluetooth phone controls. It takes some talent to hook all that up, but there is a write up in the DIY section. If you have the 1st gen SRS, 98-01 I believe, your only options are another of the same. But a horn not working seems to be a simpler repair than replacing the whole steering wheel. Just pull your airbag and inspect your horn contacts.

I’m putting the same steering wheel on my Lexus
Today I broke out the soldering iron and dove head first on wiring the steering wheel controls. Since my head unit is an aftermarket Eonon Android 10.1 inch double DIN head unit it made wiring the steering wheel control a breeze. Lol, well it’s a breeze if you spend hours of researching wiring diagrams and schematics. I found that you really only need two wires one for each side of the wheel controls, and grounds to make the controls work.
I have the same exact steering wheel I just don’t know how to wire up the buttons. I’m putting it in my IS300

Did you figure out the wiring on the steering wheel controls? If not I’ll share how I did it with you. Since the stereo is and aftermarket stereo you should have two wires in the back of your stereo that are labeled radio 1 and radio 2. Wire those into the clock spring wires that control the buttons on your wheel.
