Default Driving with the Power setting on...

I enjoy the way my gs400 rolls when I have the power switch on; It's like a different beast!
But I try not to use it all the time because (1) I don't want to get "use" to it and (2) I fear it'll just make me wanna drive the car harder more often.

How often do you use the power setting on your GS?
Is there any harm in just keeping it on?

All it does is tell the transmission to shift at a higher rpm. If you floor it the car isn't going to be any faster with it on. The power setting is "recommended" for towing, hauling heavy loads, and when your car is filled with fat people. Keeping it on will lower your mileage, and might increase drivetrain wear, but it's not a big deal.

I keep mine on only as the resulting faster gear shifts promotes transmission longevity.

I keep mine on as well. I also used the "Snow" option when I was staioned upstate NY. I seem to think it helped out.
