I was just checking my trade in value for the heck of it.

I have a '98gs 300/nav with 93k miles.

kelley trade in value is 14k

edmunds and nada are closer to 18k

I would imagine the true trade in value is somewhere in between siding closer to kelley.

does anyone have any idea why the discrepancy and how this while pricing things works?

I've found Edmunds to be the closest to real-world pricing.

keep in mind that the kbb is geared more towards the delerships, so you see the resale prices to be a bit lower than what you would really negotiate

KBB will give you the trade-in and the resale, resale will be much higher and I usually try to get something in the middle.

For trade in value, I've found that KBB is the closest to being accurate. Of course most dealers, in the Northeast, only offer wholesale (auction) price for your trade anymore. Probably drop an additional 1K off the KBB trade in value.

Edmunds.com seems to be pretty accurate with it's TMV pricing.
