Question 2001 GS 300 sunroof and window issues

Good Afternoon All,

We recently purchased a pre-owned 2001 GS300. I LOVE my car!!!!! However, after driving for two weeks we have had two issues that we need some help with. Last week, using the key, I rolled down the windows and opened the sunroof remotely. When I got home, I went to close the sunroof and it would go halfway and roll back as if the sensor felt an obstruction. My husband removed the battery cable for ten seconds and it closed perfectly after that.

Today, I rolled the driver side window down, when I wanted to roll it up, it would not go up. We tried serveral things to get it to go up and ended up taking it to the shop because we are expecting rain. no garage

IS this a sign that we will be dealing with some electrical issues? Any information will help at this point. This vehicle took a chunk to get and we can really afford any huge repairs for a few months. My husband is good with DYI too.

By the way, I absolutely love this forum. One of the reasons why we decided to purchase a Lexus. So much information and friendly advice.

Check the voltage at the battery with it running and everything on that you can possibly turn on. Weak alternators cause ALL kinds of weird electrical problems on these cars. Usually only the drivers window will act up when the alternator is on its way out. Should have 13.3v or higher at the battery with everything on and and engine at idle. The AC on max (blower motor draws lots of current).

I told them and they are checking now. I am talking to him while he is with the mechanic. Thanks for the quick response. Hopefully it is something simple. I would prefer a window regulator to an altenator but whatever I need to do to keep her running properly works for me.

Might be the window module. My drivers window occasionally will not come back up. Fortunately it tends to happen when I am headed home so I can just leave it in my driveway for a few hours and then come back out. It will usually go back up then. I understand that not everyone has a safe area to leave their car with a window down though so tolerating it like me is not always an option.

A window regulator would cost more to fix! Alternator is cheap and very easy to change.
