98-00 GS400 or 98-00 LS400, which is the king of the hill?

I had a GS and sold it to buy a LS430. With the GS, there is so much aftermarket support out there and prices are pretty good (for authentic parts). I can't speak to the support of the 98-00 LS, but the LS430 is definitely limited.

better car
I know this is an old thread, but I came across it while looking for a DIY. Funny that these are being compared because they are the 2 best Lexuses ever. Well almost, and here is why. First of all, the first gen LS400 is the best Lexus ever made. Always has been, always will be. The engineering that went into it was unmatched for almost a decade and the materials used were grade A Rolls Royce level. The car was better made than the 98-2000 cars. The GS and LS are two completely different cars really. The GS400 is more of a sports car than a cruiser like the LS is. However, if you want want a tad more sport than luxury, the GS4 delivers in spades. IT was the last large leap forward that Lexus did and the company has gotten soft and put less soul into their cars ever since. The GS4 has timeless sexy looks, tons of torque, great handling. It is the last car they made that resembled a euro car. unlike all of the new models now which look way too Japanese. So I guess when you want to put it all together with build quality, lux and speed, the GS4 is a true winner. However, the LS400 build quality, durability, timeless looks make it the best ever, hands down. The 98-2000 model is essentially the same car but with a little less attention to detail. Still very pretty though. Either one of these cars is a great buy. I will have to disagree with the audio comments earlier though. Lexus switching to Mark Levinson truly was a bad move. I have owned in order since 2004, a 91 ls400, 2002 GS430, and now a 99 GS400. The Nakamichi system is epic in regards to clarity and range. The Levinson system absolutely Sucks! I had it in my 430 and I hated it. It was no better than a standard crap bose system in a gm. There is no comparison between the two and it was another reason why I sold my 430, mostly because it wasn't sporty enough and I should have bought A Gs400 in the first place. So there you have it. 1st place is the 1990-94 LS400. Second place is the GS400, and a distant third has to go to the SC400s. Those were solid as well and were very unique. Lexus peaked in the late 90s and has never pushed the envelope since. The only car they make now that I would consider owning is the IS350
