Default 1st gen IS vs 2nd gen GS specs?

Just wondering from someone who's drove both, is there a big difference speedwise between the two? I mean the gs300 of course, I know they have the same engine but I would assume the is was much lighter, and do they handle significantly better? Just curious how the two stack up against eachother stock

The IS most definitely should handle better just based on raw stats, no question. The GS is fatter by 200-300 lbs (the IS weighs in at 3255 lbs, the GS300 is a couple hundo over that). Both are turds relative to performance cars of their day (0-60 is over 7-8 seconds). Unless you are looking to turbo, then go for whatever you fancy, since it won't matter. Except the IS does have the optional manual transmission, while you're stuck with the auto-slush on the GS.
