The Million Mile Lexus GS
#17
Bought my 99 GS300 a couple months ago with 112k on the clock. Runs like a champ. Wondering if you 200k guys can tell me what to look out for ? Most other brands of cars usually run into transmission problems when the get over 100k. Are you high mileage guys still on your original trannys ?

The transmissions on these cars are pretty stout. You can get away with just doing drain and fills and itll keep going. These cars, you need to watch out for suspension issues. They will drive you mad, cost you a fortune, and be a huge pain in the ***. Besides that, door lock actuators and climate control servos. Also, leaking valve cover gaskets and potentially cam seals. My GS was literally a nightmare despite owning it from 60k miles, having full dealer history and being pampered, but compared to most other cars they are great. I think I'm in the minority when I say the 2nd gen GS was extremely frustrating to own, but it could have been just the one I had, but oddly enough, I have looked into getting another.

I own a 98 gs300. It has 346233. Its the original engine and trany. I'm 3rd owner. Its been in our family since 2002. Its still running good with regular maintaining by myself. Change the oil every 3 months. Its my regular everyday driving.
