Clicking noise in Steering column area when low speed/coming to stop
Hi guys, i've searched for this topic, but the symptoms Ive read do not match up exactly to what im experiencing. For the past week, there is a clicking following a very faint buzzing noise in the area of the steering wheel/ column. This happens when im at around 10mph and come to a stop. It sounds like a click as if something is disengaging.Everything functions perfectly, but wondering what needs to be replaced. I've read about the servo motors, but this does not seem to match those symptoms (where noise is coming from the center of the dash board).
Also, this click seems to be the same exact click everytime the traction control senes slip. Whenever the tires slip (for example while turning quickly and breaking loose) there is a click that comes from the steering column. Is this normal? I've only had this '03 GS430 for about a month now. Please advise!
Thanks,
Jay

Thanks for your response! It's a possibility. Any idea how to check exactly? I just popped the hood and the brake fluid is almost at the min. Will top off and keep you posted. Anyone else have similar issues?

On a similar note, can anyone verify whether the a click noise is normal in the steering column when the traction control becomes activated (when it senses wheel slip).

i currently have no codes stored regarding the brake/abs. Should I go ahead and change out the brake master cylinder? I am looking to put one in from a low mileage 2003 Lexus SC430. I've searched and noticed only one person has done this with success. Anyone else? Recommendations/advice?

Thanks but it is a buzzing sound then the activcating click. It was not there at all until now. My mechanic mentioned it could be an abs or brake sensor. Any thoughts on what to replace? Car does not have any codes.

If it's activating the ABS function then it's possible from what I've read that a speed sensor for one of the wheels, or the 'ring' it reads in the hub is broken or dirty, or both, or not at all hehe. A bit harder to get to and do a 'quick' check but if it's only one side or sensor out of 4, it might be what is causing the ABS to go bonkers when you're trying to stop (so basically the car thinks one wheel is locking up when you press the brakes?).
Just some speculation and a PITA to try and diagnose but worth a shot. If you could post a video of the car with this sound that would help us understand the exact nature, conditions and severity of this.

My car just started doing this after having some of the wheel speed sensors removed and put back in during suspension work.
Quesiton to OP: When this happens do you feel the brake pedal go soft a bit? Or do you feel the brake pedal rumble?
For me, it's activating ABS only when I'm stopping very normally/gently and at around 5mph. Like...right before a complete stop. Under hard braking - even panic braking - everything is normal.
My first step will be to pull the wheel speed sensors out and clean them/reseat them. They're the original ones with 130k on them. So it could just be a little grime built up causing one to read poorly at slow speeds.
