1998 Lexus GS400 BAD OIL LEAK
Hey guys im having a pretty ****ty oil leak that just randomly started happening. This is so bad that i have oil all the way to my rear wheels, it looks like its coming from behind the crank. I put 4 quarts in it to try and make it back home and i couldnt get 7 minutes of driving without the oil light coming back on and the thing smoking to hell so i had to get it towed. Heres a video to try and help this is my first gs400 and i got it about a month or so ago.

I feel like the last owner bottomed it out really bad and cracked the oil pan. And some other stuff. Got a new oil pan and tried to seal the other cracks with somethin. Good luck and i hope that not the rods making that knock

Lower timing cover, your crank seal gave up.
When was the last timimg belt service? I would at least think about a T belt replacement while the seal is being replaced.

229k i know it leaked alittle like something to not even be concerned with (dont know if same spot) but out of nowhere it just took a **** on me. I was on my way to work which is in another town so i drove 15-20 miles before i noticed the smell and saw my light on and thankfully there was a pepboys right there so i got oil and tried to make it back home, i didnt get half as far as i thought i would before running low again and smoking so it had to of just decided somewhere along the way that it was going to give out.
I'm in the process of getting to the crank seal now I Just dont know how to pull off the vvt-i actuator thing because ive heard if you do it wrong youll **** some **** up.
oh and i was looking around the car and i noticed that not only was oil sprayed everywhere but my rear bumper was covered in oil, AND this is some of the nastiest coolant ive ever seen. this **** is too crazy. ( and no i didnt just let the coolant on the ground **** went everywhere)

Damn man you have some guts driving this thing around! If I was you I would pressure wash the engine bay before taking the timing belt apart. Then start replacing every seal in there. Google gs 400 timing marks or something like that and you'll find how to do everything you need to do. You just have to do a lot of searching.

Heres where im at now, definitely going to change this timing belt. If you have the same problem as me and have to get to your crank seal you might as well change your timing belt while your at it even if it looks good just to be sure.
on a side note something similar to what im doing has been worked on previously. While i was tearing everything down i kept running into broken tabs and missing grommets. Just thought id share what i found out.
