Default Crutchfield stereo compatibility list - accurate?

I'm looking to replace the factory GPS on my '99 GS400 with an aftermarket unit. I already have the control panel for the non-GPS GS400, so I've listed the car on Crutchfield.com as "non-Nakamichi, non-GPS" for compatibility purposes.

However, for some reason, many of the double-DIN GPS head units on Crutchfield's web site are listed as not compatible. For example the Pioneer AVIC Z-150BH looks perfect for my needs, but Crutchfield says it won't fit my vehicle. And the only Alpine unit it shows as compatible is the INE-S920HD.

Is this correct? I would think I could fit just about any old double-DIN head unit in this vehicle.

Any double DIN should fit. Don't pay attention to the figment guide. A recommend u getting the Japanese mount kit. I have an older Avic-Z110, nice radios.

Thanks. Crutchfield "advisor" says the AVIC is too deep. I'm supposedly limited to 6.7 inches.

Where can I find the Japanese double din kit? Apologize if this is covered elsewhere, but I'm having trouble finding it on this forum.

Be forewarned, do not get the double din kit from Nigel, his comprised of only the front trim. I had to return it and ended up getting the complete kit with brackets from the OEM toyota site. I forgot what the name, but a simple search on here will yield it.

Is the advantage purely aesthetic? Not sure I can justify spending $56 on a double DIN bracket...
