Default Basic oil change questions

I've got a new to me 2002 GS300 and it's time to change the oil.

Is it necessary to jack up the front to get at the drain plug?

What size head is the drain plug?

What size (in mm) washer does the drain plug take?

Jack up the front then go by trial and error. I drive my car on car ramp and change from the front. I think the nut of 10mm but not sure. Get under there and find out! FYI...you may get a bunch of views and not a lot of responses due to thi question being easy search item. I mean, our cars have been aroun since 98.

Well, I tried searching. I found lots of posts about where to buy the washers, but nothing about the size. The shank might be 10mm, the bolt head certainly isn't.

To remove the plastic underbody you will need a 10mm socket or wrench. The bolt for the oil pan drain plug is 14mm.

why remove the plastic underbody? I leave mine on. The oil nut clears the underbody and I change the oil filter from the top. OP, make sure you put a dirty rag under the oil filter because oil will spill everywhere. My old car had a catch cup that would drain down to the bottom. Nice feature.

You don't have to remove the plastic underbody to access the oil drain plug. I believe 14mm is the correct size for the plug. The oil filter is easy to access from the top of the engine. The tricky part with the filter is that is will leak a little oil when take it off. An easy solution is to a take a plasice cup and cut out the front part of it and keep it around the oil filter when you take it off. This cup will catch the excess oil and save you a mess on your engine and garage floor.

better yet, get 10washers, and then don't have to go to the dealer for awhile.

Not really to remove, just to take the few out where the oil filter is so you can fold the plastic cover piece out of the way.

Take the oil filter out from the top of the engine. It is more accessible that way and you don't have to mess with removing the plastic underbody parts.

the filter sits right on top why in the world would you try to remove it from underneath?

That's what I get for being drunk and not reading closely and responding. Didn't pay attention to the GS300 part.
