WOW. was not expecting that. What are your plans now? buy back and repair? or start the search for another car?

How is that $6.4k of damages?! Did you read the list of repairs they included in that price? My bestfriend has a '06 RL and drove off the road and had a 3 inch wide piece of wood lodged under her car as well as headlight and engine damage and was quoted $5k.

I'm starting to lose hope that the insurance company will repair my car.

It's a lot of work to cut out the rear body panel and weld in a new one. Add to that new exhaust, lights, bumper, reinforcement bar and other miscellaneous bits, it adds up pretty quickly.

Unfortunately, with the value these cars have nowadays, it's quite easy to total one in a relatively minor fender bender. However, that does not make it a waste of time or money to repair the car. A good body shop can make that look better than new. The only downside is that the car will have a salvage title if your insurance company goes through with totaling it out.

If you don't mind the salvage title, run the numbers on what it would take to accept the total, buy the car back and repair it. If it works out in your favor you should go ahead and do it. Especially if the rest of the car is in good shape and it has a black interior.

After looking at the estimate a good portion of the estimate was to repair the bent frame rail.

I wonder if they could cut it out and weld a new one in.
