Default 3rd brake light and stock rear spoiler question

Ok, I am debating on a new rear spoiler. My questions are very simple and I tried searching for it.

My GS400 came with a stock spoiler. I had originally assumed that it was installed conventionally with holes drilled directly to the rear trunk lid. When I looked last night, it was not. Anyone with any experience taking off the factory equipped spoiler? Care to share experience and How to??

Other question regards to the 3rd brake light. If I add an aftermarket JDM spoiler, there is no LED on the wing in most circumstances. I would need a 3rd brake light correct? Any advice on how and where I should add a 3rd brake light without adding an LED to my new wing?

Thank you ahead of time...

Default 3rd Brakelight & spoiler

JL,

interesting issue you've got there, most guys have it the other way around, trying to get rid of the interior brakelight. I see a couple of issues with your idea:

1) if you go JDM and do not include a CHMSL (center high mounted stop light i.e. 3rd brakelight) you will almost certainly fail your annual safety inspection.

2) if you go to add the interior brakelight you will incur significant cost to do it > $600 (unless you can find someone willing to trade interior decklids with you)

3) if you add the LED to the JDM wing you'll need to go to a very reputable shop that will also take responsibility if they ruin your wing. I am assuming that the wing is in fact able to be modified to accept a spoiler, and again this may prove to be too expensive.

What type of spoiler are you considering that does not have an integrated LED brakelight?

If you post some pics it might help there are some very resourceful and creative guys here that can offer some advice, but without really "seeing" what you are talking about it is difficult to offer advice. Good luck.

this is an older post I found. The wing is the WIN rear lip spoiler... Hopefully Lextacy won't mind that I use his car as an example...

I really do not want to add an LED to this spoiler. If someone wants to trade rear decks with the 3rd brake light I would be willing to do it... If I have to buy it, then so be it...

banana, I will be getting back to you on the rear deck swap. I might have an answer from my shop about my 3rd brake light. If I do not like their answer, I will consider your offer.

Now to my first question... Removal of the stock wing???

Anyone have any experience with this one? Its not "conventionally" bolted on to the rear deck... like the bolts are hidden in the panel... let me kno if anyone can help so I can take my stock wing off today... thanks again

I'm sure interested in this thread, b/c I wouldn't mind removing my rear wing altogether. It sounds like I can just unbolt it from what you're saying (no cosmetic repair necessary) and perhaps trade rear decks with someone who wants to add the spoiler to their black car. I assume the parts are interchangeable with a 300?

Could be an interesting "group swap" (no sex jokes, pls)

ask them to look at your spoiler also, on how to open it, should be 2 bolts on each side (along the edge of the trunk lid), could be cover up by something.

ok, now, I unbolted the OEM spoiler. It was held by double stick tape after I unbolted it from the bracket. Then I see that there is something else holding it in? I believe a clip of some sort? Anyone know how I can go about taking that off so I can finally get this spoiler off? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!
