Default 20" Low-Set 20X8.5 Rims

Hi Gang,

I recently bought a 2004 GS300.

Have you or someone you know ever tried this and if so how did it work out, any rubbing, etc:

TIRES: 275/45/20

Mounted on:

20" Low-Set 20X8.5 Rims

According to a website where I'm about to buy these from THEY CLAIM TO FIT (discountedwheelwarehouse.com).

The wheel area is 100% stock! no mods, camber, caster, toe, etc.

Your insight and any advise would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Czr =)

Depending on the offset they "may" fit... but a 45-profile for a 20 is entirely too tall, as is a 275 too wide for an 8.5 (on a 2gs at least). I'm also fairly certain those tires will rub in the front.

Hmmm, well I deff want Low-Off-Set 20"'s so I'm going to have to look at tire packages. I agree with you that 275 width is excessive. The most I dare to go is a 235 tire width.

As for the height, since I can't afford to Airtek suspension I just want to "fill it in" as best as possible, nah mean!?!

Maybe a 40-45 mm tire height will do nicely.

BTW - got any parts to sell ?

Theres no f'kn chance in hell thats going to fit. That tire size is absolutely ridiculous. Thats the same size tire as a god damn Range Rover. And even if it could fit (which it wont) a 275 of a 8.5 would look just completely retarded.

Did you seriously type "nah mean?"?

Anyway - you need to do some reading on tire specs. The sidewall height is an aspect ratio, not a measurement in millimeters.

^^ Exactly

So if your tire size is the OEM 17" 235/45R17

235 = mm in width
45 = 45% of 235 (105.75mm)
17 = Rim Diameter

I hear ya.
So the 20 X 8.5 inch wheel is not the problem, the tire size is.

Whats the widest and lowest tire that will comfortably fit ?

Thanks !

If you're doing the same 20x8.5 front and rear, the widest tire I would recommend is 255/30R20. But if your fenders are not rolled or modified in any way and dont plan to just make sure the offset of the wheel is +35 or higher

I think I understand. I deff want low-offset wheels, every website I look at says low-offset 20" wheels will fit.

These wheels won't be sticking out beyond the fender to much will they ??

That all depends... if you go by what Yakuza is recommending for the offset/tire size regarding the 8.5s, then most people outside of Corvette and Porsche owners wouldn't consider them "low" offsets; but like he said, you wouldn't need any fender modifications. But, why are you wanting low offset wheels to begin with if you're worried about them out past the fender?

...and don't believe what those websites are telling you, do some research to find out what fits and what doesn't.

Low offset is a really generic term. Find actual offset numbers and search this forum for the size and offset you're considering and find out whether it will fit and what tire size is recommended. There's over 15 years of knowledge and experience with the 2GS in this forum, use it to your advantage.

If you're not planning on modifying your fenders make sure the offset is between 35~45

It's not difficult at all. You've had people tell you what to do, and there are NUMEROUS posts about it in the forum. All you have to do is search.
