Default How long is too long to get a tranny flush?

Ok, my car has 197k, i was going to go to lexus this week and have my tranny fluid flushed, I have service history and it was changed like 4-5 times up to 100k, 100k was the last time I have documentation of it being done. Although it's possible it got done after that, anyway I know you don't wanna change it if it hasn't been done in a long time.. Is 97k (possibly) too long? Would I be killing my transmission?

I just did 3 drain and fills over the course of 3k...one every 1k miles, about 4 quarts each time I think which cost me $6 A quart from the dealer so all said and done still cost less than what a flush would have been and the transmission fluid is cherry red. I probably could have only done it twice, but it was really easy

^^Dang man. You paid someone $150 to do a drain and fill. Its easier than changing oil IMO...you don't have to deal with the messy oil filter. I get a constant 3 qts out, so I just replace with 3 more qts and drive on.

^^Did they use T4 or crappy "universal" fluid. I'm assuming universal. Yeah that's a lot.

When doing this, no need for a new tranny filter? My fluid is starting to turn brown and have no way of telling if the previous owner replaced anything. I just don't want to have to deal with slipping.

I did end up going to lexus and they performed the full flush with toyota fluid, even after 97k transmission has been fine, no slipping. I was nervous at first

It isn't a filter. It's a mesh screen, so micro particles are traveling thru the holes anyway. If your tranny is breaking chunks to where the screen is catching it, then you will have an obvious problem. you need to do something asap because fluid is brown.

OP, how much did that fluid change run you? I'll do this drain and fill once I change my oil mid year. Go ahead and know both of them out while I'm under the car and fluid is hot.
