New To Club Lexus and super excited to be a member
HeLLO!!!! FAMILY!!!
My name is Valentino aka Valsky and I baby is a 2000 GS 400 white on beige interior base model I just bought it 2 days ago this would be my 3rd gs400 the others were 98, 99 and I was forced to sell them because I needed money. but now I am doing great at my new job so I was super lucky to find a 2000 gs400 1 owner with 125k miles super clean BUTTT!!! HE NEVER CHANGED the timing belts so the first thing I thought to do was change the trimming belt and water pump with the components like the idler pulley and tension pully, I thought since this is a MAJOR important part of the car and I want to keep it for a long time I should go to lexus or toyota to get this done instead of an independant shop they quited me $1800 with all the compnents and labor including the pcv valve that controls the gas going into enginge. my questions is am I crazy for going to toyota to get this done when I found kits for timming belts online for $270 and I have a mehcanic that would do it for $400 or am I doing the right thing by going to the dealer and getting real lexus parts? please advise and let me know if I am crazy

Welcome Valsky, I need to do my timing belt service as well and got two quotes recently and one was $1020 for timing belt, water pump, and front seals, they other quote was $2k... They quoted two different prices for timing belt and water... Needless to say i'm not going there... both were Lexus dealers not Toyota.

yea the dealership tends to rip you off a new engine costs under 2k for the car I would think the timing belt can be done for about 1000, I am going to get Lexus genuine parts but an experienced mechanic should have no trouble doing the job that is what im doing

New Here. Picked up a Blue 99' GS300 about a month ago and then spent the next two weeks changing the timing belt, water pump, plugs wires, cam seals and VVT sprocket. Cleaned up the interior and now it's a straight, clean machine.
It's my first time having a daily driver that isn't a massive V8 SUV, but I really wanted to try a luxury car. So far I enjoy it.
I have never noticed another GS300 in this color, does anyone have any production numbers to show how many were made?

Greetings. I purchased my '99 GS300 in July 2014 after looking at several other 99 300's in varying degrees of condition. I found it on Craigslist of all places. It had 70k when I acquired it. It has 75k on it now. I toggle between it and my 2001 Mustang Cobra convertible with 63k mi which I bought in Feb 2014. I was just referred to Club Lexus last week at my local O' Reilly AP. It was basically all original except for the blingy 20's. I added Tein Street advance adjustable coilovers. That's it... so far. I have not had time to check if there is a thread for this and I did not see anything in 2gs faq: Does the car's computer adjust for larger diameter tires, and if not is there a way to do so? Thank you. I am already feeling like a kid in a candy store as I explore this website.

Hi, I've been here almost 2 months and haven't introduced my GS. I bought my 99 GS400 from the original owner in January for $2500. I had to drive almost 6 hours round trip to get it. It has 205,000 miles but runs awesome. All I've had to do is replace the starter. I have the window sticker and everything. Original owner payed $52,500 in 1999. I have big plans for it and have done a lot in 2 months, but it's at a stopping point for a while.
