The problem with the GS starter is how to get to it to replace it . ...

Exactly why I wanted original Motor with rebuilt Solenoid!
I seen to many remans fail. And I for one did not like pulling the manifold by myself it was a PTA.
Most starter failures are contacts Fails anyway.

Yes, I think you are right . That is what I would do when mine goes bad ... I will rebuilt the solenoid and clean up the body real well and perhaps even replace the cooper contacts .

Removing/replacing doesn't seem that difficult; just time consuming. I'd say if you've replaced your own abs unit and or valve cover gaskets, you're qualified to do this job yourself.

I used the kit to repair my starter 5 years ago at 185,000 miles, I am at ~220,000(?). And its still running strong. Once you have the starter out its easy. I did not have to remove my intake manifold or anything of that matter. It was a pain to maneuver the starter out once unbolted, but it was doable on my 1st Gen GS300.

Actually.. I have a spare starter for a 2JZGE. It came from my imported supra motor (~ 67K miles).
I had requested to keep my original starter as I knew what condition it was in because I rebuilt it.

The one I did not use is OEM Toyota japan.

for $40 would you be interested? I can try to get US postal service flat rate shipping for $8-$9. let me know.

I figure it would be easier for you to 1) test this item outside of the car, 2)rebuild this item with kit (or use as is if it tests good), 3)then re-test before installing.

I think this would save you some down time.

Just trying to help a fellow member.
