Default Would you let Toyota service your GS?

I am at 85K miles, and getting very close to the dreaded 90K service. I've searched the archives here and I see that people have paid up to $1700 to have this service performed. Beyond the standard 'inspecting' of everything and changing fluids, this big to do is replacing the timing-belt.

I called over to my local Toyota dealer and they said they would do the entire thing, including timing belt, for $900. That's a nice savings. My only concern is that they don't have this same engine in any of their cars. If I had an ES300 I would do it in a heartbeat since the engine is identical to the Camry. Of course, let's be real here our engine is not something exotic like a ferrarri, I would think nearly anyone could do this basic service.

My question is, would you allow Toyota to do this service? Any service? Am I crazy for trying to save $700?

$1700 wow do you live in beverly hills?

I never heard of lexus charging $1700 for a 90k service it's more like $900 to about $1000 for the service.

If you are being quoted $900 than that is a legitamate price and the going rate for that service here in NJ. NOt to mention you get a lexus loaner included in that price.

Actually, the $1700 post came from Biggie's post that I found from a while back.

I too live in Jersey, and I just called Difeo Lexus who quoted me $1175 for the whole gig. Obviously for a $200 savings I will just have Lexus do it. I would still like to get it for less if possible.

For a major service like the 90k, I'd go to a Lexus dealer. Hopefully if you shop around, you can get a good price. I know my local Toyota dealer won't even do oil changes on the GS400/430, but will do so on the GS300.

As far as prices go, I've heard it's about a $1000 here in CA, give or take a hundred depending on the dealer. IMO, the extra money is worth the peace of mind you'll have from knowing the work was done by Lexus.

Let's remember that the dealerships are individually owned, and they throw in their own services bundled with the X Mile Service, AND the varying geographic variables (cost of living; other dealerships near by as competition, etc.)

For a major like that, I'd go to the dealer myself. Use the 'Yota dealers for the not-so-major services in between.

Actually, I think the GS(4) shares its engine with the LandCruiser, Sequoia, and Tundra, but I could be mistaken. That's just off the top of my head.

As Dex said there are several Toyota vehicles using the V8. The important thing is the technicians ability and attitude. I would rather a great Toyota tech do my work than an angry/barely keeping his job Lexus tech. Shops very a BUNCH.

Also, while doing the TB it is highly recommended to do the water pump and probably hoses and accesory belt. Some prices may reflect more parts and labor than others so be certain to ask.
