GS300 Engine Oil Collects Under the Engine.
I was just taking the 2002 GS300 car for a spin, once I opened the hood, there seemed to be a bit of oil collected under the engine on the support frame. The car has 280K (kilometers).
I automatically though its a gasket problem.
How much do these things cost to replace ?
Any suggestion?
How much to expect for fixing (good and bad scenario)
Thank you in advance.

Yea, most likely oil pan gasket. Not an easy job, you can find a DIY on here for it. Its a FIPG and a very tedious job 'cause you gotta scrape all of it off before applying new one and its not a simple wipe off job. A dremel tool is suggested, but scary in the case you take a piece of the block off. Also, iirc, the cross member is in the way, so you have to lift the engine off its mounts to remove the pan.
I had a mechanic neighbor quote me $150, so I can imagine how much a shop would charge.
Suggestion? I've heard of many cleaning around the pan VERY well and getting some black silicone and applying it all the way around and that took care of the problem. I'm actually going to do that cause although I consider myself a skillful mechanic, I dont want to go through that tedious job.
To make sure that its the pan gasket, when you remove the under carriage splash guard, you should see beads of oil around the perimeter of the pan.
Good luck on your decision.
