Default 99 gs 300 amp question

I just signed up... first post. I'll introduce myself when I have a bit more time.

I just bought my daughter this car from my neighbor. Compared to my is300 the radio kinda sucks(lol). I saw one in a bone yard and noticed an amp in the trunk. so I thought maybe mine doesn't work. well it turns out mine doesn't even have one. I don't believe it was taken out because it didn't see a connoctore for it.,
My questions are......

Do all the GS's come stock with factory amps? (Mine has a factory radio and CDchanger in the glove box).
What would it take to use install that factory amp in my daughters GS?

All GS come stock with an amp behind the glovebox, models with navigation and premium audio get an amp in the trunk. You'd be looking at rewiring the whole audio system to get the wires to the trunk, then it would depend on if the stock head unit would want to turn the IS's amp on or not. Also, the GS has the amp talk directly to the CD changer, while on the IS it's built in to the head unit, so you would also lose the ability to play CDs.

Thanks,
Just to be clear... I was only comparing the sound is my IS to the sound of the GS. I wan't thinking of combining them some how.

But that does seem like too much work.

Sort of, but not quite. Models with Premium Audio (Pioneer) have an amp in the glovebox. Models with Nakamichi or Mark Levinson have an amp in the trunk.

you not having the factory amp in the rear deck is a blessing, taking it out is a pain.

use this as a chance to upgrade!

If you are talk ing to me there is nothing wrong with it. I just id ask.

On a side note The parts cars was hit in the front and its at a pick a part type place. that means the motor and tranny is still good. and onthe 4th they usually have 1/2 price day. Since I have an IS and GS I might pick it up for a spare.

The amp in the rear is more susceptible to failing than the one behind the glove box (thats why i asked if you can use the older amps in the place of the one in the trunk) but if you can get one cheap like $50. its worth it for a spare amp.
