2001 GS430 -- 16-18 mpg local and short (20 mile) trips; 23 mpg highway at 75. I don't pay any attention to gas mileage in how I drive, just about every time I'm in the car I punch it a couple of times, take corners fast, etc.

The worst i have ever got in my 98 GS400 was like 17mpg, and that was smashing it the whole time, so i am pretty happy with it.
Normal driving is like 20mpg for me

The NAV computer average for the GS400 V-8 over the last 7000 miles reads:
20.4 MPG
This is Southern California driving at its best and worst for me. Mainly, 17 miles in to work in the morning at 60mph average (80mph crusing speed), and 17miles home at 25mph (average, with stop-n-go traffic for 5 miles of that trip).
At constant 65mph, the car reads an average of about 27-30mpg.
At constant 80mph, the car reads an average of about 19-22mpg.
I'm happy with the V-8, considering my first car as a kid was a Volvo 4-cylinder that got 22 mpg and I thought that was great! My second car, a 350ci Chevy impala got 10mpg... the GS400 has the power of the V-8 with the conservation of a 4 cylinder!!!
BTW, I am using a 2003 V-6 ES400 loaner from the Lexus dealer, and over the past 5 days, I have averaged about 22.4 mpg for the same trips (about +2 mpg for the V-6). I would have hoped for more than a 10% increase in mpg with the V-6, and it doesn't have the smooth power of the V-8. I find myself really have to step-on it to get the same "maneuverability" that the V-8 just innately has available without really trying. Of course, step into the V-8, wait about a full second for the downshift and fuel to get into the cylinders and WHAM! off you go! The V-6 just doesn't have that much to offer me for only a 10% increase in fuel conservation. It *does* offer a cheaper price on the sticker, and 2 mpg more...but I'm glad I have the V-8!

PS: the service trip is for a blown passenger door tweeter, and door lock programming change (both front doors to unlock with one button push).

I got 17 mpg local stop & go trafiic and 21 mpg freeway mileage!
Does the snow mode really cut the throttle in half to save gas ?
I've tried a couple times of using it and did not see any difference
in mpg.
