Man, I just got my car a month ago and now the brakes are making that annoying a$$ sqeeking noise. I took it in and they lubed it up or whatever and two weeks later, same problem. I just took it in again and they said it was because of the metallic brakes pads that they use now. They said that it was a hard fix and it was a common problem with the newer cars. Come on. If this was a common problem, wouldn't they do something about it like using something other than metallic pads. Any of you guys having problems with this?

Well, though I am lowly BMW owner I will respond since no one else has. I have experienced the same problem with Carbon Metallic pads on my M5, especially when new. Usually it was greatly reduced by going out and really bedding the pads. What I mean by this is to do 4-6 hard stops from 70mph and really heat them up. Then drive around and let them cool down. Even with this you still may get some squeak when braking very lightly at slow speeds.
Are these original pads or replacement? I would recommend Lexus pads or Mintex Red box replacement pads. Some mechanic put cheap metallic pads on my wife's Maxima and not only did they squeak they ate up her rotors. Horrible.

With many newer cars on the market, metallic brake pads are becoming the norm. Sure, they make the annoying squeal (almost embarrassing to tell you the truth), but they are supposed to last much longer than non-metallic pads. Like KKelly says, it should go away in due time. I usually only hear the slight squeal the first 2-3 times that I break, but after that it's no longer audible. Also, the squealing only happens when it's cold out. In the summertime, there is no squealing, except early in the morning when it's still cool outside.
I've only noticed the squeal on my RX, however. No squealing on the GS.

When you get semi-metallic or metallic brakes make sure that they apply this orange rubber gunk compound on the back of the calipers. This helps keep them from squealing and sticking......
That was my fix to help cured the noise...

Could be your parking brake? Do you use it at all? My '98 Vette had the same problem and it was because I never used my parking brake eventhough it was an automatic. I use mine like a habit now. Just my two cents.

In the Vette, the praking brake was right inside the rear rotor, so don't ask me why, but after we removed it completely, it stopped. It was rusted away for the lack of use. Just my 2 cents.
