Dashboard gauge lights?
On my 98 GS400, I notice when I start the car at night, the gauge lights are nice and bright and then seem to dim down.Is this normal? Is there a way to stop this?Is there a way to make them brighter?I already tried the brightness switch but, it seems to be all the way up and only gets dimmer.

I do wish my dash was a little brighter at night too but there is a method to Lexus' madness here.
A bright dash impairs your night vision because your eyes are compensating for it and that means you have reduced outside vision, say on a dark unlit road for example. Better to be able to see outside than inside your car.

If I pull up to a lighted intersection (say a traffic light) at night after driving on dark roads, the dash brightens up, then when I get back on the dark roads it is fairly bright and gently usually imperceptibly dims back....

It's funny you say that because the change is so subtle, you don't quite notice it. I started mine up this morning and it was slightly overcast and in the shade. I'm in deep winter mode here in Canada.
The dash started on its night mode, and even in the shade the sensors figured out it's daylight but in shade. And before I even knew it, the dash had gone into daylight mode and brightened right up. I just don't recall that it did that until I started reading this thread!
