In the Chicago area, (Illegal to tint fronts in Illinois) many people blend the tint.
I have tried many setups, and the best I've found on a 4 door sedan is 20% rear three and 50% front sides. From all angles, the front looks tinted just as deep as the rear. Only from the side can you tell that the tint is lighter in front. Do not go darker than 20% on the rear or you will lose the 'blending effect'. Do not go lighter than 50% on the front. 50% is perfect, with anything darker you still run the risk of being pulled.
I have not been pulled once in the past 6 months with this setup. On my new 350Z (bronze limo tint all round including front windshield) I've gotten pulled twice in just the first week.

Well we all know tint is illegal.. In my town cops like to mess with you but never had a problem anywhere else.. I am pretty sure all my tint tickets where $55 and I only had a couple over the last few years. Sometimes the cops are cool and give you a break. I think tint law is stupid and right now I have a black/black sc430 that will heat up like crazy in the summer time. PBA cards also help sometimes.. Sometime cops are real jerks I got pulled over in my gs4 last year in staten island after a night of partying for speeding.. Cop gave me 2 tint tickets one for front windows and one for rear windows. They dont like to see a young kid in a nice car, If he wants to be a jerk he will be. But I dont blame them, I wouldnt want their job
