Masterkey Confussion
Hi all, I am a new owner to a 98 GS400. I recently bought the vehicle. It only came with one grey. According my FSM, the grey key is the “Subkey”
According to it: “Subkey (gray) – The subkey will not open the trunk, trunk main switch and the glovebox”
Yet my Subkey does open the trunk and work in the ignition, but it does not function in the glove box, trunk switch.
How can this be?
Is it a duplicate master key?
Also Ive read a couple threads on here on getting a replacement key
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...y-program.html
this one says you can program it yourself using the stated method, so if I get an OEM uncut master key off eBay (found a very reasonably priced one), get it cut and follow the instructions it will function correctly?
or am I going to have to have the ECM flashed?
Thank you in advanced!

What matters is the remote part. The electronics that determine if it's the master key is in the remote module. I'd u have that then you can easily add more keys if not you will need to reflash ecu either at dealer or lock smith some dealers force you to buy a new ecu some dont.

The truck lock button is what prevents the valet key from opening the trunk. You have the valet key. If you push the trunk lock button (under the steering wheel to left, it will lock and not let you into your trunk any longer. Also the master key has 2 machined ridges on each edge of the key. The valet key does not have these.

OP don't touch that lock between the gas and trunk release until you get a master key! You might accidentally lock it because from what I remember you can push it in and lock it without the key.
