I just purchased a 99 GS400 and there is no warranty left on the car. It's in great shape and only 27K miles on it. I should be driving it home later this week, but wanted your advice on a few things:
First, Do you think I should obtain an extended warranty on this car or try to get it certified?
Second, Is there any problems areas that I should know about?
Thirdly, How difficult is the maintenance on these cars? Is it a DIY friendly as far as brakes, tune-ups, etc?
Any other advise or links that would be helpful would be great.
Thanks,
Don

Congratulations!!!
First of all, where did you get the car? Only participating Lexus dealer can do the certification, that is their CPO Program. If you bought the car from another owner and that owner bought the car CPO, then the certification is NOT transferable. You can also purchase extended warranty from private companies, I believe.
I have my 1998 GS400 for almost 5 years and so far, I did not experience major problems.Odometer is a little over 54,000 as of today and been happy with the car.
Maintenace...hmmmm...
Yes, it is a little bit expensive. I have my dealer maintain my car but you can have alternatives too. You can let dealer service 30/60/90/120K preventative but you can have Toyota or yourself change your oil & rotate tires every 5K miles/7k miles (for some). If you are wearing 17" tires, they wear out around 15-25K miles and expensive to replace compared to their 16" counterparts.
If you take good care of your Lexus, they just don't easily break down.
Enjoy your car and happy (racing?) driving.
