I think the Acura Legend Coupe is still pretty nice 8 years later.

ARRG! All these discussions about the GS!

I've wanted one for the longest time. The 1998 GS and LS cars are priced very similar and I can't make up my mind. I'm not ready to buy exactly yet, but I'd like to within the next 2 months.

I think you all make great points! I cannot believe someone did not mention the Legend coupe earlier! IMO the SC, and GS(1st and 2nd gen) have withstood the test of time like no other car in the Lexus lineup. The LS (89-97) really tells its age because it was styled after the 82-91 M/B S Class! But the 98 LS is a GREAT looking car, especially thiose cyrstal head, and prism tail lights! I hope I do not start a riot, but I also think the 95and up Q is still a very handsome and classy looking car (probably because THEY copied Jaguar).

If I could ask a question, do you all think the newer Lexus models look as good as the ones we mentioned? I personally do not, and I noticed that no one mentioned the new ES, LS, or SC. They all seem to be very derivative and bland, they seem to wear their Toyota lineage on the OUTSIDE, which is not a good thing on a 37-65,000 dollar car!

Agree?

my thoughts, as a nonprofessional:

i disagree with the comment that the bmw 5 series is an attractive car. there's something about an overly curvy car that makes it appear nonaggressive, in my opinion. the 5 appears 'wimpier' than the previous generation 7 series and even the 3 series.

i think the gs nicely balances aerodynamics and aggressive styling. as a lexus, it has a unique design without having to resort to infiniti / nissan gimmicks (maxima tailights, anyone?).

i don't like the new sc design because it's too small on top.

(heh.)

Thumbs down Agreed ;)

Agreed. I think the new Lexus designs are classy but, they seriuosly look DORKY bigtime.
dgot- You're absolutely right bro. for some reason the sc,ls,es have lost their aggressive lines & look a bit boring to me. The new LS430 looks like crossbred MB pre-gen S-class. The es looks like they were confused & rushed the design to look as different from the camry as possible. I think the SC430 kinda looks like Audi TT & Nissan Z had a baby.= SC430. lol. It looks really god from some angles & looks bizarre frmom others.hhmm. I wonder what the new GS will look like.

I like the 2G GS so much, I decided to forgo waiting for the new 3G to come out. I just love the lines and I do get stares...though it's probably because of how young I look...most people just don't expect to see a guy my age in the driver's seat. They probably think I'm in the Chinese mafia or something

I think the last few years LS is classy and elegant. With slight changes in the body though and you have a lincoln, uuuggghhhh!!! Now with the ES, until the recent change, it was boring, felt like a camry, well, cause it is one. The new ES is looking cool imho, I saw one lowered with 20's at the dealership, it was a dark dark blue with chromies. I did see a camry on the road yesterday with rims and centers matched. The car was black and looked so cool, but it's a camry and soon there will be 3 in sight at any given moment and it will be, well, boring.

The SC is a totally different story, the wheels are wierd and without being lowered it looks a bit odd. But modded, slamming car, if done right of course.

I do think though that the latest GS is amazing. It's probably because I've had 2 GS and will probably always have one in my collection. I want a new one and almost got one just a few months ago. I ended up with a 2002 430 and a stronger commitment to pay for my MBA instead. Amazing car and is totally timeless. Yes, I walk away and look a couple of times just to admire.

I think these are some design classics:

BMW E39 and E46
MB 90-02 SL500
Toyota Landcruiser 80 and 90 series
Lexus GS 98-05
Lexus SC 91-00
Nissan Maxima 95-99
Acura Legend Coupe
Nissan 350Z
