Hey all I'm having a similar issue, not sure if it's the same engine light code but I need to replace the part labeled as "VSV for EVAP" on page 2 of the comp.pdf file. It's above the engine towards the right side. It looks like just a bolt unscrew and two hoses or connections to redo. The part itself is $60 but I was quoted $200 to fix this to clear the check engine light. I started a different thread before I found this (doh).

How can I confirm that this is the VSV to be replaced? A smoke test was done and mechanic reported this was the part with the leak. I am just wondering what precautions to take to try to replace it. Does the battery need to be disconnected? Is there a certain way to disconnect the cables and hoses that go to this part? I'm a total novice at this but definitely want to learn more. Once it's replaced, how do I go about clearing the code and confirming the repair worked? Any tips would be great.

Do you know what code you're getting dude? Mine was specifically the P1651 code and I ordered mine from Japan. It has turned up now, but the code has gone from the system so I'm not sure when I'll get round to fitting the part. What happens to the running of the car? Notice any difference or just an engine light?

I will be doing a DIY on this when I do fit the part, but I have my LS400 brakes to fit today, so won't have time.

All I would say is to get the code read as there are a lot of sensors on these cars and there are two solenoid valves that are linked to the VSV system. If it is the same code you're getting I'll knock up a DIY for you. It doesn't look too hard to do, but you will need to remove the inlet manifold. I'll take plenty of pictures when I do it.

As for clearing the code, you can only clear engine light codes using a scanning tool or computer. I'd ask around and find a friendly garage/shop that might be able to do this on the cheap. It really is a small job. My friend runs his own garage and he checks my codes and deletes them for free as it takes him 2 minutes to do. I'm sure someone in NY will be able to do this for you on the cheap.

Not sure of the code, but the smoke test determined it was the VSV above the engine and the gas cap. The car runs the same, although the VSC OFF light is also one and I feel the car slipping here and there, could be just me though freaking out.

Any help is appreciated. I could just go back to the mechanic who did the smoke test but awkward... no?
