Help
Ok i don't drive a Lexus (yet) but i'm planning on buying one within the next month or so and i originally was going to go for a 99-00 ES300 but in reading some info on these forums i'm finding that there is absolutely nothing to make them "more exciting" to drive. Unfortunately as much as i would love a GS300 i fear that they're hopelessly out of my budget range Does anyone know about how much they think i could get a 99 GS300 for (or maybe even a 98 but i've heard they have some electrical probs that year anyone know how true that is?) I work for a car dealership so i can get decent deals on used cars but i'm only lookin on spending around 20K or so

I was in the same boat as you a few days ago. I just bought a blue GS400 w/ 69k for 20,500 and the dealer is swapping me out for 17" factory chrome rims.. the car was in excellent shape. If you look you should be able to find a similar deal especially if you have the hookup. I would go for the v8 tho'... I got mine on Monday and am absolutely loving it. Be patient and don't impulse buy. Try autotrader.com and see what the prices are in your area. I talked the dealer down from $23,500.

Well you may be able to buy the car but a couple of things to keep in mind.
If your gonna drive it a bunch, the V-8 sucks gas.
You won't need much if any unscheduled maintenace but required maintenance will cost.
If you want to mod your car correctly, it will cost as well.
Don't put yourself in a car you can barely afford to put gas in. Get a GS 300 and when things get better, TURBO THAT SUCKER.
The ES 300 is an excellent starter Lexus, it was my first one. Another option is get an 2001 IS 300, they are in the low 20s as well and offer just as much excitement.

If i did get a GS i'd go with the GS300 anyway because of like you said the gas mileage and i'm only 18 and insuring a car like that with a V8 would be very expensive. I was just afraid that the ES300 wouldn't give much driving excitement that i'd be "bored" while driving it. But its still an awesome car so if i can't get a reasonable GS300 i'll still definetly get a ES300.

Well what i mean by around spending 20K is like 20K and under and at teh most 21K cause i don't want too big of a loan. I'm in college (though my parents pay for that) but money still isn't super abundant and i don't wanna go to far into a car payment.......Thanks tho

FYI: GS300 doesn't get much better gas mileage than the GS400.
