Default Questions about electrical mods

Hey all trying to do some electrical changes to my 03 GS430 but not sure where to start.

Im wondering if there is anywhere other than the cig lighter that can be used as a power source to for ex connect a phone charger? It came with a xm radio installed in the place of the ashtray, and I'd like to put the ashtray back in so I can have some power but maybe there is another location? I'd also like to know if its even possible to reinstall the ashtray.

Also is there any place in the rear trunk area that I can plug in an a/v connection and power to? I have the soundlinq2 unit installed for iphone connectivity to the navi and want to try to install a rear camera as in this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/gs-...ew-camera.html .... but it says I need to connect to the head unit, Where is the head unit anyway do I even have one (not sure if soundlinq2 is the same thing)?

WHAT?! Are you kidding me? Where is it? I opened up both compartments and there are no wires or holes or anything

Found it! I'm mad I never noticed this. I should read the manual more.

I wish there was a way to run the cable outside of the console

Where do you want the cable to be?

Trying to get it to run outside of the center console, otherwise have to leave phone or whatever plugged in, inside the console.

The console will still close with a charger cable running out the side. The head unit is the radio/nav unit in the dash. Didn't read the thread you linked but the camera would need to be connected to the nav unit so it would display on the screen. Not sure how easily this could be done with the stock nav unit, assuming it is stock. Most aftermarket double dins have a connection for a backup camera.

Kyle thank you much for your input. Now I see most of the work I need to do will require me to remove center dash/nav unit cover. And that's fine I already got a bunch of DIY threads saved for that. I think I can actually pop open the nav unit cover without touching center console or the shift gear **** area.

The challenging part now is trying to find a place to connect the rear camera, in the trunk. There is a box for the GPS DVD in the trunk that must connect somewhere! I know it will work because my nav unit plays DVD and even video on my old iPhone 5.
