Default Gs300 repair

I bought a 2000 gs300 with 150k on it and I had it for about 3 months and a couple of days ago I was driving on the freeway doing about 75 and I noticed my rpms at around 3000 and my speed was decreasing and the steering wheel became hard and unable to turn. I got it back to my house and a mechanic looked at it and told me he thought it was a piston and was talking about an engine swap. He later told me the crank might have seized. He's going to take it to his shop to lift it up and look. He says hopefully it's just oils and we can start it up so we don't have to do the engine swap. Looking for any helpful info 2 of my buddy's who know a lot more about cars than I do said to take it to another mechanic cause it more than likely wasn't a piston. I would appreciate any info that could help me know what it is or any info in general.
Also on an other topic I want to make my 2jz fast id like to turbo it in the near future but right now since I'm doing some work on it what would be a good performance part to start with?

Engine work sounds like the fast way to an expensive repair. Lexus cars will actually start to shut down peripheral systems like interior lights, power steering, power brakes (and other systems the car doesn't require to run) when they experience a low voltage situation. I've had a gs300 and an es300 and had bad batteries/alternators cause the problems you are experiencing. Remember most Lexus dealerships only charge around a $100 diagnostic fee. Obviously the parts and labor from them is hugely expensive but to get good diagnostics from the dealer is worth the $100 or so in my opinion. Then do the work yourself or pay someone else to do what the dealer said.
