Default I broke my navi painting the faceplate

Just want to know if there are any options I have besides buying a used navi for 100+
I am stuck on what happened cause I taped everything up and now the "touch" is not working. The screen itself works fine, it turns on like it normally does. It's a bummer cause other then that it came out really good. I was excited to put it back together and was happy that the screen came on but was completely bummed out when I found out the touch was not working.

I am probably not going to replace it, I can still turn my ac/heat on with the temperature buttons, listen to music and all that and I never use the crap outdated nav anyways. BUT if anyone knows a simple fix or a link to something similar, I might just try to fix it myself. I found one link, but that's for a dead nav? On the weekend when I have some spare time I will try to fix it myself. If anyone has messed with the navi before or has a link please share your thoughts. I'm thinking maybe a wire popped off? Or maybe I accidentally painted it? I'm not sure what I'm looking for.

Here's some pictures I took of how I painted it, and how it turned out

Paint got a little messed up under the top buttons but I will be fixing that with a detail pen and some TLC

I'm going to be painting the bottom stereo piece, ac vents, center console and the gauge trim. Basically everything that is dark grey will be painted a gloss black. I hope I can fix the nav, cause if I have to buy another I won't be trying this again

The touch panel uses an infrared grid to detect where you're pressing. It looks like you might have painted over the window that houses the emitters and detectors (the separate panel that surrounds the screen). If you remove the paint from that section, it should work again.

Thank u for the reply man. So basically you think I painted the screen itself? Cause I never lifted the screen fully just enough to slide some tape plastic and paper under there.

Do you have any idea on how I would go about removing the paint?

You can't detach the surrounding from the screen and buttons?

Then it would be easy to remove the paint where the sensors are.

Ps. From the looks of it you're using iPony to take pictures, right?

Well the faceplate pops off and the buttons come along with it, and the screen stays in place. So when u pull on the faceplate it comes off without the screen

What's ipony? I am using an iPhone

It all comes apart, it's just a bunch of increasingly small screws and connectors. I would take it apart and isolate the rectangular plastic window, then remove the paint. Traditional paint stripper will damage the plastic, but you can use brake fluid to take the paint off relatively worry free.

That's what I thought of.

I'd like to paint my radio faceplate and all of the vents etc. black but then I'd have to paint over the white texts.
It'd be a PIA to try to cover the texts from being painted and would propably look tacky.

Well the ribbon connector is what im terrified of touching. How would it be disconncted? Wow brake fluid!? Sounds scary, would it be safer to use alcohal and a cloth? I heard thas what people use to clean their touch screen computers and such, so theres a plastic window over the screen and thats the "infared grid" you are talking about?

Thanks again i toaster! Very helpfull

The vents were actually the easy part, everything is clipped together. The vent blades just fell out when i opened it.

I ran out of paint also so the little vent blades will have to wait till next week but the vents face turned out exactly how i wanted it.

I personally dont think it looks too bad as is, now when i drive i feel like i have more of a updated stock interior rather then a custom one. I cant wait to see the results after i sand a polish to a mirror finish!
