Good question,

I think he's talking about how the back bumper is sometimes a lighter or darker shade then the rest of the car. I had this problem on my old SC400 when it was a champagne color. This topic has been discussed many times. Do a quick search and you'll find lots of people who have the same question.

Default Here's why...

Most asian automakers paint their metal parts ie. main body of the car in one factory and the plastic parts ie. bumpers in another factory and more than likely on different days and with different batches of paint. Added into that is the flexible parts (urethane bumpers) have added flex agents/elastomers (chemicals that allow the paint to flex a bit without cracking) that tend to darken paint colors. Very common and considered normal.

Being a professional detailer and sometime car painter, I spend a lot of time updating myself onTSB's in the detailing and automotive paint industry, from the manufactures data, and I know this to be the case. Hope this helps.

It shows on some colors worse than others but Lexus is pretty outstanding in paint matching from the factory. Also, all this enviromental friendly water-based paint sucks.

Yep, I had this same problem when I replaced my right passenger lower panel. It got scrape on a high curb and I replaced the whole panel, the silver is a little off when you look at it at the right angle. The plastic parts seem to keep their color better than the paint on the metal...
