Brake light illuminated after rear spoiler install
Hi all, I have a slight problem after installing a rear spoiler on my 03 GS. I spliced the red and black wires from the aftermarket spoiler into one of the tail lights in the trunk lid. I have Red going with Green w/White line and Black going into the White line.
The light on the spoiler works just fine, but the brake light on the trunk does not come on when you tap the brakes. But does come on when you turn on the parking lights.
Do I have the wires spliced correctly? Or what gives?

Do you have the black wire going to the white and black wire? I don't recall seeing a white wire in there.
Were they working before you installed the spoiler? Sure your stop light filaments aren't out?

In your trunk door left side you have a factory plug for the spoiler. You need to take out the black cover on the door trunk and you can see the plug there. If you no want to take the cover out, you need a second person to push your brake pedal and a power tester to doble check the power and ground when the other person push the pedal. Also, if you have aftermarket spoilet the light is a led, right? LED light want to make turn the light on your cluster ON. LED light is low in volt and for that reason the warning light turn ON on your closter. You maybe need a resistor on that connection to avoit that situation. When I change my spoilet light for LED light in my cluster start show the warning light. I install a resistor and I resolved the problem. Good luck.

Yea i didn't realize this car had a factory connector for a spoiler. When i pulled the panel off and saw it, I removed the wiring and extended the spoiler wires to the side where the factory connector is. Figured its better to splice into that.
However, like a dummy I never checked the simple stuff. The DAMN BULB just needed to be replaced. HAHA I didn't really think about it cuz it was working just fine right before I installed the spoiler. But I moved the bulb to the other side and the "outage" followed it. So just grabbed a bulb from my IS300 and put it in and bam, indicator light gone, all brake lights including spoiler working proper.
Lesson here, always check the simple stuff no matter what.
I pulled off the Sport Design lip and put a spoiler on it. I wasn't a fan with the lip. I guess I'll store it in the garage maybe someone will need one of them one day
Thanks for the replies guys!
