Default Can a 01-up is300 ac compressor fit and function in a 99 gs300?

Hi!

Does anybody know if the 01-05 is300 ac compressor work in a 99 gs300? I know they share the same engine and all but when i compared the two online, the front clutch is different and the part# is too. Need to know, because a friend have one laying around, but would like to know if its going to work or not.

Thanks!

All VVTI 2J comps and clutch pulleys are interchangeable. V300 GTE, S300 GE, IS300 GE, GS300 GE.

So do u think I could just use a 02 is300 ac compressor to my 99 gs300 without any parts swapping over? I see the is300 ac clutch pulley is larger then the g300.

They interchange, done the swaps, built the cars. Yes there are some revisonal differences in the ac comp casing and the clutch used on them between models and years, but only cosmetically not functionally.

Pulley size is the same, the serpentine belt is the same, they all interchange in real life and are a Denso 7SBU16H

If your buddy has the comp and it's free, seems that you are in luck!

FYI, AC comp swap in a GS is easy to do there is plenty of room to work, one tip is it's easier to remove the side studs out of the block once you take the nuts off then pull out the whole comp, as it's tight trying to slide the ac comp off the long studs it hits the frame rail when they are still in the block.

About an hour job to swap it if you haven't done one in a GS before, then it take to a competent shop that will truly vac it properly and charge the system.

And the comp takes PAG-46 compressor oil.

Hi!
if you compare the two compressor from MR Jokster's part diagram, the difference i see is that the front clutch pulley is flushed/same size with back compressor pulley on the IS300. The gs300 clutch pulley is smaller then the back pulley. Now, is the IS300 compressor a better design since its newer? You mentioned the functionality is possibly the same only cosmetically different. Also, you mentioned that you swapped either one before and it worked the same, so i want to make sure before is start the replacement.
Thank you all for all the information that you guys provided me on this.

I just completed the swap from an 02 IS300 to an 04 GS300 and vice-versa with no issues, so for anyone wondering, it is possible and confirmed to be done by at least another individual in addition to another who replied to this thread.
