Default Tire Size: Advice Needed

I just purchased a 2 owner, 2002, Gs300 with 123k miles. I have 4 (almost new) Goodyear 90k mile all season radials (215 x 55 x16") on my Saab 95 that I would like to transfer to the Gs300. I was told by Sullivan Tire (70 stores in New England) that my all-season radials will NOT work on the Gs300 because of the 93 load range AND the 55 width of the tire. They said the load range needs be 94 and the tire width needs to be 60. They stated that the Gs300 ABS system will not work correctly with the tires that are currently on my Saab. Are they just trying to sell me another set of 4 tires or are they correct with their assessment.

If I remember correctly, the stock size is 225/55/16 not 60 series. No idea about the load range though.

The second number is the sidewall height ratio. The first number is the section width of the tire, in millimetres. The stock 16" size is 215/60-16 on a GS300 or 225/55-16 on a GS430. Your ABS system will still function, but the tires are in fact undersized.

You're running into issues because most tire businesses are not allowed to put on a tire other than the OEM size (store policy, not law). Either go to a smaller privately owned tire shop, or remove wheels from cars and take to the shop. They can put any tire on any wheel, assuming it's the right size for the wheel, with no car involved.

My bad. I have a GS400 and didn't realize the 300's had different sizes. Thanks for the info
