Default oil leak need help !

hello club lexus, i am trying to locate an oil leak in my motor. seems to be coming from the upper front portion of the left side and dripping down the front of the motor possibly coming from the valve cover, to the oil pan. however have been unsuccessful in finding a picture of someones gs400 with a leaky valve cover. have found many threads but none with pictures.

I don't have pics but that's exactly where mine was leaking. On mine I would see a dark liquid near the alternator / front side of the engine just below the valve cover. When I was stopped at a light you could see fumes coming up (which of course was the oil burning). I had them replaced around 180,000 miles. One thing is for sure you will notice a big difference once you have them replaced!

alright good to know i just got back inside from looking everywhere i can possibly look and it seems the oil has only been on the valve covers and fresh oil on my oil pan/crossmember dripping down, doesnt seem to be the oil pan gasket. i have never experience any smoking though, is that something that always happens if you have a bad valve cover gasket?

Had my vvti leaking. Was getting on my belt as well.. had to rebuild the vvti, but no leaks now. See if you have oil on the timing belt.

I had one recently on my 02 GS430 that ended up being the double o-ring that goes between the block and the oil filter bracket Lexus Part No.: 15692-50020. Took a while to find it because it would only leak under pressure when driving and never left any garage marks.

I degreased the entire area, drove on the highway for a bit and checked it again. Appeared to be the only thing it could be.

Sure enough it was hard as a rock and split when I pulled it off.

Not saying that is your problem but it was on the front left side of the engine and took a while to find.

Good luck.

If its the valve cover, get it fixed asap, i learned the hard way. My alternator got ruined due to the leaks.
