Any AB Canada members getting a key cut?
Hi CL GS guys and gals, just wondering if any of you have had any luck trying to get a key cut with one of the Ebay blanks? I am taking a chance with transferring my module into one the the widely available flip keys.
Specifically, I'm in Southern AB and the local yokel locksmith seems to think that I don't have the transponder chip in my module. He's wrong obviously but is happy to charge me CAD$65 for just trying to cut a key copy.
Any of you in say Calgary who had to replace the cracked original master key? Does it cost that much?

Theres an Ebay seller from San Francisco who sells the flip key's for like $30 and cuts them for free... I've been buying from him for many years and have never had a problem. Just search for the key and find any seller from San Francisco (I believe he's the only one) you'll read in his page that the key is cut for free.
hope that helps. I understand you already have one, but this may still be a cheaper easier way to go

I never had an ebay key cut, but I got a new OEM key cut at Royal Oak lexus and programmed it myself. The guy there was pretty chill, I bet they would cut it for you without issue. Can't remember how much the oem key cost but it was reasonable
Would not recommend Lexus of Calgary, they wanted to sell me a new lock ECU or something
Nice idea on the flip key, our keys look so old fashioned

Ooh, ouch. $100-200 is a little too rich for me. The problem with 1010 keys is that he's selling in USD (39.99 latest price) and that means by the time I order his key blank and get it cut, I'm at the same price as local yokel locksmith.
Still got my valet key so that's ok by me.

Well good news so I thought I'd follow up with this thread. Turned out that the local Toyota dealership was quite helpful and cut my Ebay key blank for me for $36CAD. I had sort of avoided them because they overcharged me for a timing belt and water pump change a couple of years back.
I was talking to the parts dept guy who told me that even if I had lost my two master keys then they would have done the legwork for me to find the key code (it's a US car in Canada and that can be problematic). And they would not have charged me any money to do that.
Ava92, Royal Oak was helpful too although their info was slightly different than mine. But that's my fault because I thought I had a valet key instead of a second master key (valet is grey, master is black).
FiveSeven, yeah the angle that the flip key sticks out from the dash makes it a bit awkward to turn it, so I see what you mean.
But all things considered, I got a flip key for the grand total of $46CAD
