Lens still cloudy
I just finished wet sanding (400, 800 & 1500 grit) but the headlight lens never cleared up. Should I keep sanding or is it time to buff and polish?

wd?
ya, another round of steps start to finish. fresh sandpaper
i just completed this task last month and was too tentative with the elbow grease initially. scared i would mess em' up.
check mr. jokter's before and after photos in post #5 on the thread below. your 'before' photo isn't nearly as scuffed up.....
his results are awesome though i don't know where the wd40 comes in...i'll have to check into that.

I've detailed many cars with good results with these steps if not clearing-
1. Lowest grit needed to clear up
2. Increase grits numerically finishing with 3000
3. Compound (can't stress enough, this grit acts around 4k-6k)
4. Polish (acts as a grit around 6k or 8k as jeweler's polish)
5. Wax
A little different when I use clear enamel (pics below)-
1. Purposefully leveled the headlights with 600 to 800 grit (give the clear a surface to stick to)
2. Shot many coats, I think 8 or 10 coats per side
3. Wet sanded clear coat with 800 to 1000 and increased grits numerically finishing with 3000
4. Compound
5. Polish

Dude, go to Advance or Napa or where ever and get the drill attachment like I posted. Save your arm and your time. Took me 30minutes.

Buy the sylvania headlight restoration kit, it's by far the best method I've found. It actually comes with a UV resistant clear coat, it makes them look like new and it lasted on my old GS for over a year up until I sold it, used it on my friends 2IS a few months back and his still look new too. Really great kit.

Clear coat will flake off over time, and isn't easy to apply evenly.
Even if the lens is slightly hazed, I've found vinyl wrapping it makes it crystal clear, and it stays that way forever. I've done it on all my cars. You can do it in a slightly tinted shade, or clear.
