Xenon
Hi. I have a 98 gs400 with xenon auto leveling headlights. But the tabs on the right headlight are broken. I have a set of regular halogen headlights. Can I dismount both lights & assemble the xenon on the regular housing headlight since the tabs on that one are good. Thanks

Actually yes you can do what you are asking. Its going to take some precision though. If you look closely at the halogen lights and put them side by side with the HID lights, you'll see tabs that can be "punched" out to match the extra accessories that the HID housings have, even the for the ballasts. Both housings are exactly the same, just the HID's have the extra little 'thingamajigs' for the added 'thingies'
So yea, if you have them side by side, look for the differences. Then look closely at the halogen housing where its different, you'll see the markings in the shape of the added 'holes' for the accessories such as the auto-leveling motors and the ballasts. I did this exact thing for my headlamps, I just cant remember how I did it and the details, but it is possible. I cant remember though if it was easy to punch out, or if I had to use a Dremel tool to cut it out. I vaguely remember using a small file for the sharp corners of the tabs I had to punch out.
If you're a hands on type of guy, you should be able to figure it all out once you see them side by side... The biggest difference though is for the actual bulbs, dont forget to cut the tabs for the 'backing' cover for the HID's
Good luck, keep us posted on your progress

Crap, I just remembered! Theres a LOT more to this than you're thinking. Yes this all can be done, however, the reflector bowls are COMPLETELY different!!! Unless you plan on pulling them completely apart, dont do it PLEASE! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DONT!!! LoL
The halogen bowls have a different reflector bowl than the HID's, so if you put HID's in the halogen bowl, you will be that A-hole that blinds everyone with illegal HID's in a halogen housing. The HID bowls have a natural cutoff that the halogens dont. If you put them side by side, you will see a significant difference on how the pattern looks on the 2 bowls. When I did this 'conversion', I did it because I did a retro-fit, so it didnt matter.
My suggestion, if you want to do all the work... Do what I mentioned above, but open BOTH housings up and swap all the guts. I have a write up on the retro-fit I did that explains how to disassemble them if you want to look it up. The whole process (once removed from the vehicle) should only take about 2 hours.
I say do it!
