Talking Newbie Here.

Hello ALL!!

We I'm not a Lexus owner yet but I will be in about a week, I'm looking at the GS300 and the GS400 but I cant seem to make up my mind, I've been looking at every website portaining to the Lexus cars and I want a fast car but I don't know if the GS300 is fast enough. I currently own a Acura Legeng LS (91 sedan) This car is pretty quick and it's a 3.2L V6. I can only imagine the gas on the V8 GS400. But can you guys give me some advice please.

Thumbs up

GS400! Definately. Any car will suck gas if you drive it hard. I'd rather have the extra power myself.

Default Welcome!!!!GS400/430 v.s. GS300!!!!

the extra 75-80 HP will definately give you the ride of your life. I myself own a GS300 but I wish I have that kind of option like yours, to buy a GS4 or GS3. I am happy with my GS3, however, If something ever happens to her, i'll will get a GS4 instead! Oh, one more thing, I don't know if you know any CL's members who live near you, hook up with them, maybe they'll let you test drive both, or just ride along with them. I hope this help!

According to my GS4's trip computer, i'm getting 20.4 MPG combined city/hwy, which, for a 300 HP car that I occasionally hammer, is damn impressive. I have gotten 25mpg on a trip already. Now most of the upside there is from when my wife drives the car, no doubt.
IMO, go with the all the power you can, because it can be a safety factor, getting onto freeways from onramps etc. I would really miss not having it now.

Of course, if you don't use the pedal intelligently, it can of course get you INTO trouble too.

I have a TL Type-S and was looking for something that is faster so I bought a GS400. Motor Trend posted these numbers for the GS300 and GS400 in November 97:

GS300 0-60 7.6, 1/4M 15.7/89.6
GS400 0-60 5.7, 1/4M 14.3/98.2

Welcome to Clublexus Hova. We have many members here who stepped up from a Legend to a GS 300 or 400. When u buy a Lexus, we tend to not worry about gas usage.

When I looked for a new 2003 car, I tested drove GS3 because it was much cheaper (about 11 grants). GS3 at that time satisfied me because I previously own a 90 Cressida (straight 6 cylinders). However I ended up with a 1999 GS4 and loved every minute of it. Practically they are both the same except the power. I certainly enjoyed the rush when stepping hard on the pedal. One draw back with the GS is that the shocks tended to not keep the car on the road at beyond 100 mph. However, I missed the Mark Levinston audio system on the newer models (2001 and up).

My 2 cents.
