Default Door edge rust

Got some door dings that have now rusted.

What should I do or put on to prevent further rust?
Are those door guards any good?

Depends on how bad. I assume its just surface rust, in that case, use a grinder or Dremel tool and carefully grind it off. If you dont have either, get some fine sandpaper, like 200 grit and sand it off. Tape the outside and inside panels off so you only grind the edges. I say do the whole door edge so it would be uniform. Once you sand off all the rust, spray some clear-coat to seal it from the elements that create rust.

Another way (less invasive). Still grind/sand off just the door ding area by itself then to seal it, use some clear finger nail polish. If not nail polish, you can get some matching ding paint from a parts store and paint over the ding. Anything to cover the exposed raw metal.

Door guards are 'good', but you still need to remove the rust and seal the raw metal so it doesnt spread.

Wondering if something like this is worthwhile initially

I wouldn't do anything less than sanding it... Its your car, do what you feel. Rust is cancer, I wouldn't chance it when theres such an easy solution.
