Question Can't fill gas continuously ....

The past several years my 2000 GS400 developed this problem of not being able to allow gas to fill the gas tank continuously at the gas pump. The gas station pump lever gets tripped almost immediately when I tried to squeeze the lever all the way down or put it on the first or second click stop. The only way to fill the tank is to very gently squeeze the lever to allow gas to flow extremely slowly and that generally takes about 25 minutes to fill when the tank is near empty. I have tried different gas stations, different pumps, .... and all give me the same issue. I read online the likely cause is a defective emission valve and canister situated on top of the rear axle. I had that replaced just recently but the problem still persists. Do any of you have other suggestions where else to look to pinpoint the problem? I'm hearing other Lexus and Toyota owners have similar or same problem with older vehicles. So far I have tried filling gas at the Costco, Shell, Chevron, BP, .... and all exhibit the same problem.

I usually pull the nozzle back out of the filler tube an inch or so. I also try and angle the nozzle upwards as much as possible while it is in the filler tube. Be careful because on very rare occasions it will actually over flow with this technique.

newgsman, I tried what you mentioned as well as rotating the nozzle in different angles and none worked. Not sure what else could be the cause. I also checked all the vent lines and they seem to be fine too.

Default clicking fuel nozzle

Something you shoild check is the fresh air vent the charcoal canister sometimes spiders have cobweb blocking ventalation, also on the fuel tank is a vent valve that coild be stuck. a common problem all guys do is the topping off NEVER do that . once the nozzle click stop. Over filling can saturate the canister causing a misfire and high gas consumption.
