Forgive my ignorance, but does anyone know what 135,000 yen equates to in U.S. dollars when adjusted for the difference in the cost of living? I can do the conversion based on the exchange rate, but I understand that everything in Japan is expensive when you convert only according to the exchange rate.

135,000 yen may sound like a lot when converted directly into dollars, but if a Big Mac costs 1,000 yen, maybe it's not really that much to a typical Japanese buyer.

Default Who cares about cost of living

GraceGSgrl, I hear what you are saying but, it is still damn expensive...when I was out there a few months ago on business I almost choked at my first dinner bill...small sushi dinner (no drinks...just soda)at the ANA Tokyo Hotel cost me 9000 yen about $75 US. Don't get me wrong best I've ever had, but even the locals thought it was expensive. I guess if a set of lights cost 300-400 here then the 1250 for JDM lights translates to a 4x COL increase...I don't think that is too far off from the correct COL adjustment factor from Japan to the US.

With today's conversion rate, 135,000 yen/118 = $1144 USD. + shipping + handling fee + 5% Japanese sales tax is just about $1350 USD.

Just like everyone said, this is a very high end, unique product targeted toward a specific group of customer that are willing to pay. If their customer would pay for it, they don't have a reason to lower their price. Also according to DaveGS4, they have the same quality as the OEM lights, so even the JP's cost is probably pretty high. This is something you buy to look cool in, to be different, to be special, of course it is not going to be reasonably price. Have you ever seen any DKNY shirt, Rolex watch, Ferrari vehicle, private jet services offer any kind of discount?

The cost of living in Japan on regular things is for sure higher then in the U.S., but it is not that much higher. Only their housing cost is much higher. A Big Mac over there is about 360 Yen ~ $3 USD compare to $2 USD over here. Sure if you have dinner at a high end hotel like what Johnny Mo did you are going to pay up your nose, but regular decent dinner can be have for under $10 USD.

johhny...like you, i was completely shocked when i visited japan for the first time..a cup of coffee was $3-4, depends on where you go..basically upscale hotels and restaurants charge you for the price and "time" of sitting and chatting at premier real estate district, and such is the norm in many asian countires where land is scarce....many live in small apartment and or studio, so they prfer to meet friends and failies in a nicer settings..

well, as i frequent japan few more times, i actually found many good eatries that charge reasonable prices..ie, $1 sashimi dish that are displayed on a model train that run across the sushi bar..very unique experience..

ok, back to the car parts topic

The first time I was in Japan at the first hotel I stay at, they have set dinner for about $80 USD also. So I said whatever and walk over to the McDonald across the street and fill myself up for $9 USD.

McDonald is quite expensive over there compare to here. Ever since then, I always eat at the local Roman house, it usually cost me somewhere around $4~$8 USD to fill myself up with noodle and pot sticker.
